FRIDAY NIGHT SCORES FROM ROCK HILL, FORT MILL, GREAT FALLS
South Pointe 28, Catawba Ridge 18
Spring Valley 41, Rock Hill 0
The Spring Valley Vikings defeated the Rock Hill Bearcats 41-0 in a Region 4-5A game at Spring Valley.
Vikings’ quarterback DQ Smith opened the scoring with a 12-yard run for a quick 7-0 lead. Before the first period was over DJ Williams picked off an errant Rock Hill pass and returned it for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead with just less than nine minutes to play in the quarter.
Spring Valley added two more scores in the second stanza for a 27-0 lead at intermission. Evan Javis scored on a sixty-one yard run for a 20-0 advantage with just more than eight minutes left until halftime. Smith got his second score of the night with less than five minutes to play for a 27-0 lead.
The Vikings finished the scoring with two more touchdowns in the third period to take a 41-0 lead heading to the final 12 minutes of play.
Spring Valley improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the region. Rock Hill is 1-4 in all games and 0-1 in region play.
Northwestern 52, Ridge View 22
The Northwestern Trojans took a 24-0 lead after one quarter and routed the hapless Ridge View Blazers 52-22 in a Region 4-5A game at District Three Stadium.
Will Mattison passed for the first two Trojans’ scores. He hit William Brooks on a nine-yard play for a 7-0 lead and followed with a ten-yard strike to Christi Watkins for a 14-0 cushion.
Turbo Richard upped the count to 21-0 with a five-yard run and Kanoah Vinesett’s 24-yard field goal made it 24-0 to end the opening period.
Northwestern added three more touchdowns in the second quarter. Mattison passed to Watkins to complete an eight-yard play for a 31-0 lead. He hit Brooks on a 12-yard play for a 38-0 cushion, and went back to Watkins on a 6-yard completion to make it 45-0 at halftime.
Andrew Washington’s seven-yard run cut the deficit to 45-7, but Mattison teamed up with Elijah Caldwell on a seven-yard play, and it was 52-7.
Washington passed to Zion Agnew for the final two scores for the Blazers, who completed the scoring with a safety.
The Trojans finished with 20 first downs and 322 total yards.
Mattison completed 16 of 22 passes for 239 yards. Richard spearheaded the rushing attack with 103 yards on 12 carries.
Watkins had five catches for 57 yards to lead the receivers. Jalen Logan had three catches for 69 yards, while Caldwell finished the night with three catches for 44 yards. Brooks also had three catches for 30 yards.
Vinesett kicked seven extra points, and in the process he estalished a new South Carolina state record with 76 straight extra point kicks.
It eclipsed the old mark of 75, which was set by Dylan Strickland of Saluda during the 2015-2016 seasons.
The win improved the Trojans to 6-1 in all games and 1-0 in the region. Ridge View dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in region action.
Great Falls 18, Lewisville 7
The Great Falls Red Devils toppled the Lewisville Lions 18-7 in a Region 2-1A game at Great Falls.
Great Falls opened the scoring when Xavier Brown scampered 15 yards for a 6-0 lead with just less than nine minutes left in the first period.
Lewisville countered in the second period when Anthony Walls scored on a nine-yard run, and with the PAT they took a 7-6 lead.
The Red Devils regained the lead on the final play of the first half when Foxx Moore took a lateral and passed to DeMarion McMullen on a 27-yard play for a 12-7 lead.
Great Falls opened the second half by recovering an onside kick. Moore turned the recovery into a touchdown a few plays later on a 34-yard scamper. That made it 18-7.
Great Falls improved to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the region, while Lewisville fell to 3-3 in all games and 0-1 in region play.
Andrew Jackson 30, Central 12
The Andrew Jackson Volunteers broke open a close game in the second half and defeated the Pageland Central Eagles 30-12 in a Region 4-2A game at Andrew Jackson.
The Vols used a safety in the second quarter for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Two touchdowns in the third period made it 16-0 heading to the final 12 minutes of play.
Central scored early in the final stanza to cut the deficit to 16-7, but Andrew Jackson answered with a pair of scores for a 30-6 lead. The Eagles finished the scoring late in the quarter.
The Volunteers improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the region. Central dropped to 1-4 in all games and 0-2 in region play.
Chesnee 31, Legion Collegiate 28
The Chesnee Eagles built a 21-7 lead at halftime and held off a Legion Collegiate rally in the fourth quarter to earn a 31-28 win over the Lancers at Chesnee.
Chesnee improved to 1-5 overall, while the Lancers dropped to 0-4.
