The Herald’s Oct. 8 scoreboard: Northwestern notches shutout; Clover, Chester win, more

All games are slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night unless otherwise noted.

Lamar 48, Lewisville 8 (Thursday)

York 19, Catawba Ridge 13

Northwestern 28, Blythewood 0

The Northwestern Trojans broke open a close game in the second half and toppled the Blythewood Bengals 28-0 in a Region 4-5A game at District Three Stadium.

Northwestern took a 6-0 lead at halftime with a pair of field goals by Kanoah Vinesett. The first one was from 25 yards out with three minutes gone in the second quarter. The second one was from 21 yards away with just more than two minutes remaining until the break.

The offense turned it up a notch in the second half. They scored twice in the third quarter and added another touchdown in the fourth period.

Zachar Anderson got the first one on a six-yard run midway through the third quarter, and Will Mattison passed to Christi Watkins on an 11-yard play for the second one with just more than four minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Mattison completed the scoring in the fourth quarter with a one-yard run.

Northwestern finished with 338 total yards and 16 first downs.

Turbo Richard led the rushing attack with 112 yards on 20 carries. Mattison completed 10 of 19 passes for 202 yards. Elijah Caldwell led the receivers with five five catches for 125 yards. Watkins caught two passes for 37 yards, while William Brooks had a pair of catches for 24 yards.

The Trojans’ defense was dominating all night. They limited the Bengals to 150 yards and only nine first downs. One of those was by a penalty.

Issac McLellan led the Trojans’ defense with nine tackles. Ashton Latta added seven tackles, and DJ Jackson had five. McLellan and Latta each recorded a sack.

The Trojans improved to 2-0 in the region and 7-1 overall. Blythewood dropped to 0-1 in region play and 3-3 in all games.

Nation Ford 56, Boiling Springs 27

The Nation Ford Falcons scored in every period and ripped the Boiling Springs Bulldogs 56-27 in a Region 3-5A game at Nation Ford.

The Falcons broke a 7-7 tie after one period and took a 27-14 lead at halftime. They were up 35-14 after three periods.

The Falcons improved to 2-0 in the region and 4-3 overall. The Bulldogs dropped to 0-2 in region action and 0-7 in all games.

Clover 44, Fort Mill 7

The Clover Blue Eagles scored in every quarter and routed the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 44-7 in a Region 3-5A game at Clover.

Clover scored its first touchdown with a double pass to take a 7-0 lead. Darius Bowser caught the second pass to complete the 50-yard scoring play late in the first period.

DeMarco Evans ran in from 18 yards out to give Clover a 14-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The teams traded scores to complete the quarter, and Clover led 21-7 at halftime.

The Blue Eagles added another score in the third period when Zach Jordan recovered a fumble in the end zone and it was 28-7. Chance Sanders bolted 55 yards later in the quarter to make it 35-7 heading to the final stanza.

River Joye passed to Hunter Jaime on a 15-yard play midway through the fourth quarter to make it 42-7. Clover completed the scoring with a safety.

The Blue Eagles improved to 1-0 in the region and 2-3 overall. Fort Mill fell to 0-2 in the region and 1-5 in all games.

South Pointe 51, Lancaster 13

The South Pointe Stallions scored in every quarter and routed the Lancaster Bruins 51-13 in a Region 3-4A game at Lancaster.

The Stallions scored a touchdown in each of the first two periods for a 14-0 lead at halftime. Zaveion McCrorey passed to Waymond Jenerette on an 11-yard play for the first score. The duo hooked up again with 26 seconds left in the first half for the second one.

Ty Chambers opened the Stallions’ scoring in the second half when he returned a fumble 19 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0. The teams traded scores, and it was 27-6.

McCrorey found Jenerette again on a four-yard pass play to make it 34-6, and the Stallions added a field goal to up the count to 37-6 after three periods were in the books.

South Pointe added two more touchdowns in the final 12 minutes while the Bruins got one.

South Pointe improved to 2-0 in the region and 5-1 overall. Lancaster fell to 0-1 in region play and 2-2 in all games.

Chester 31, Fairfield Central 0

The Chester Cyclones defeated the Fairfield Central Griffins 31-0 in a Region 4-3A game at Chester.

Zan Dunham passed to Reggie Heath on a 31-yard play to give the Cyclones a 7-0 lead early in the first period.

They rallied for two second quarter scores to take a 21-0 lead to the dressing room at halftime. Dunham got the first touchdown on a two-yard run, and Rathael Pendergrass got the second one on a 46-yard interception return.

Sherard Feaster added a touchdown in the third period on a 68-yard kickoff return, and Henry Glenn capped the scoring with a 31-yard field goal midway through the final stanza.

Chester improved to 2-1 in the region and 4-3 overall. Fairfield Central fell to 1-2 in region action and 4-3 in all games.

Andrew Jackson 52, North Central 7

The Andrew Jackson Volunteers routed the North Central Knights 52-7 in a Region 4-2A game at Andrew Jackson.

The Vols took a 14-0 lead at halftime and stretched it to 28-0 at intermission. They added 24 unanswered points in the second half before the Knights got on the board to close out the scoring.

The Vols are now 2-0 in the region and 5-2 overall. North Central dropped to 0-2 in region play and 2-4 in all games.

McBee 42, Great Falls 38

The McBee Panthers edged the Great Falls Red Devils 42-38 in a Region 2-1A game at McBee.

The Panthers improved to 1-1 in the region and 1-4 overall. Great Falls fell to 1-3 in region action and 5-3 in all games.
