How Rock Hill area schools did in the first round of high school football playoffs
Here is a recap of last weekend’s high school football playoff games:
Spartanburg 31, Rock Hill 7
Spartanburg opened the game on a 17-0 run and neutralized Rock Hill’s offense for most of the night. Despite the loss, the Bearcats finished with a winning season for the first time since 2019. Rock Hill’s lone score came on a touchdown passes from quarterback Matthew Wilson to wide receiver Malik Clark.
Northwestern 57, Laurens 0
Northwestern jumped out to a 50-0 halftime lead en route to 57-point shutout victory over Laurens. Running backs Zilon Arnold and Turbo Richard combined for three touchdowns on the ground while quarterback Finley Polk threw for four touchdowns.
South Pointe 49, Eastside 7
South Pointe held Eastside to just 138 yards of total offense in the win. Stallions running backs Jalil Jackson and Aidan Turner combined for 257 yards and four touchdowns, while quarterbacks Malachi Marshall and J’Zavien Currence combined to throw three touchdown passes.
Clover 31, Woodmont 14
Clover opened the game with a 28-0 first half lead and rode the momentum to a victory over Woodmont. Running back Landon Stone had three touchdowns in the game, eclipsing 2,000 yards rushing for the season.
Hillcrest 37, Nation Ford 29
Nation Ford entered halftime with a 21-17 lead over Hillcrest, but the Rams scored 20 straight points to open the second half in a comeback victory. Falcons quarterback Kaden Barnett threw four touchdowns in the loss.
T.L. Hanna 53, Fort Mill 9
Fort Mill opened the game with a field goal, but was unable to stay on the board as T.L. Hanna scored the next 53 points. Fort Mill’s lone touchdown came on a 99-yard fumble recovery by senior Logan Shope with just under two minutes to go.
York 26, Riverside 17
Riverside scored on its opening drive to take a 7-0 lead, but Ayden Davis returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to knot the game at seven. Davis scored all four of York’s touchdowns: three on the ground and the kickoff return.
Greer 29, Indian Land 28
Indian Land took the opening kickoff in for a touchdown in a back-and-forth affair with Greer. With 19 seconds remaining, Greer kicked a 22-yard field goal to put the Yellow Jackets up 29-28. Freshman Sequel Patterson had two touchdowns in the game for the Warriors.
Lancaster 26, Ridge View 14
Lancaster overcame a 7-0 deficit and scored the next 26 points en route to its 26-14 upset road victory over former region rival Ridge View. Dee Mobley, Mikal McCollum and RJ Brown combined for four rushing touchdowns in the win. It’s the Bruins’ first playoff win since 2014 and their first win over Ridge View since 2009.
Chester 52, Powdersville 34
Chester exacted revenge in a 52-34 victory over a Powdersville team that knocked the Cyclones out of the playoffs last year. Shrine Bowler Antonio Hopkins scored three touchdowns for Chester, while senior Reggie Heath picked off three passes in the win.
Andrew Jackson 58, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 16
Andrew Jackson beat Ridgeland-Hardeeville in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year, this time by a score of 58-16. Senior quarterback Brady Williams threw for four touchdowns in the game, while running back Trey Thompson chipped in 150 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Lewisville 52, Calhoun Falls Charter 0
Lewisville opened its postseason run with at 52-point shutout of Calhoun Falls Charter. Quarterback Ian Grissom had three total touchdowns in the game, while running back Damion Fee had a pair of scores on the ground.
