Belk and Kendrick in top 34 players nationally in class of 2018 high school football recruit rankings
Two locals landed in the top-34 players in the country in the class of 2018, according to new high school football recruit rankings released Wednesday by 247sports.
While early in their careers, it is a neat bit of recognition for Lewisville’s Josh Belk and South Pointe’s Derion Kendrick.
Belk, a 6-foot-3, 304-pound defensive tackle, checked in at No. 29 nationally, and fourth-best for his position. Belk holds offers from Clemson, South Carolina and LSU.
Kendrick, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back, is No. 34. He has offers from Florida, Clemson and South Carolina and has impressed college coaches and recruiting gurus on the camp circuit this summer.
Both players are rising sophomores and both were given four stars.
Other South Carolina players in the initial ranking included Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner (No. 40), Daniel linebacker Jake Venables (No. 88), and Wilson linebacker Xavier Thomas, the highest-rated class of 2018 prospect from the Palmetto State at No. 4 overall.
