Chester drops Lewisville in feisty county rivalry encounter
Lewisville and Chester squared off in a scrappy but exciting cross-county rivalry game to kick off the season. Chester prevailed, 45-14.
Chester scored four times, all on the ground, in the second half. Lewisville’s effort was hurt by a third quarter scuffle that saw nine players ejected for coming off the bench.
Turning point
Early in the second quarter Chester quarterback Malik Williams broke a 68-yard touchdown run up the left sideline, made possible by a block from running back Quay Strong. The run put Lewisville in a two touchdown hole that it never recovered from.
“It was big for us to get out front. And I thought the defense did well early on. We just gave up a couple of big plays in the second half,” Chester coach Victor Floyd said.
Critical
The Chester defense intercepted Lewisville quarterback Trey Keels three times in the first half. Senior defensive back Quan Young snagged two, returning the first for a 38-yard touchdown and recording the second with 37 seconds left in the half ending Lewisville’s most productive first-half drive.
