High school football roundup: Indian Land edges Buford with late field goal

Blacksburg outmans Lewisville 34-18

At Blacksburg, an undermanned Lewisville team hung tough for a half, but ultimately the numbers game won out as Blacksburg used a dominant third quarter to pummel the Lions, 34-18.

Up two points at half, the Wildcats (2-0) outscored Lewisville 14-0 in the third period, keyed by running back Alonso Davis, whose 15-yard touchdown run and interception on the ensuing series helped put the game away.

Fort Mill 35, Lugoff-Elgin 14

At Lugoff, the Yellow Jackets moved to 2-0 on the year with a convincing win over the Demons.

Rogan Wells keyed the Fort Mill attack, scoring three touchdowns on the ground and passing for another. He had touchdown runs of 35, 15, and 1 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellow Jackets scored 28 points in the second period to put the game away.

Gray Collegiate 68, Great Falls 0

At West Columbia, the home team scored early and often in routing the Red Devils.

Tailback Duncan Rivers led the offensive assault with 179 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Gray Collegiate led 34-0 at halftime and cruised from there for the win.

Indian Land 39, Buford 38

At Buford, the Indian Land Warriors scored on a late field goal and edged the Buford Yellow Jackets 39-38 in the season opener for both teams.

Indian Land led 28-13 at halftime, but Buford scored 22 unanswered points for a 35-28 lead. Indian Land rallied to take a 36-35 lead, before Buford kicked a field goal for a 38-35 lead, only to see the Warriors drive and kick the game-winning field goal.

Fairfield Central 40, Chester 7

At Winnsboro, the Fairfield Central Griffins scored the final 26 ponts of the game and routed the Chester Cyclones 40-7.

The Griffins, 1-1, took a quick 14-0 lead, before Chester, 1-1, scored to cut the deficit to 14-7.

Fairfield Central added one more touchdown before intermission for a 20-7 lead, before scoring 20 points in the second half to account for the one-sided victory.

Lancaster 48, Andrew Jackson 0

At Kershaw, the Bruins scored 21 points in the second quarter to open a 34-0 lead at halftime and rout the Andrew Jackson Volunteers 48-0 in the season opener for both teams.
