Hawgs of the Week: Fort Mill’s Neill and Lancaster’s Johnson

The Herald’s Hawgs of the Week from Week One helped their teams score impressive blowout victories. Hawgs of the Week were nominated by their coaches and a winner was selected from two categories: the six 4A schools in The Herald’s coverage area, and the six 1A, 2A and 3A schools.

4A schools

Matt Neill, Fort Mill: Senior right guard is an honors student who’s helped the Yellow Jackets rush for 542 yards through the first two games. Neill, a three-year starter, graded out at 88 percent in Fort Mill’s 35-14 win over Lugoff-Elgin, producing two knockdown blocks and helping Ed Susi’s offense grind out 332 yards on the ground.

1A, 2A, 3A schools

Lewis Johnson, Lancaster: Senior left tackle is an integral part of the Bruins’ offensive line this season. In Friday’s season-opening 48-0 shutout of Andrew Jackson, Johnson graded out at 88 percent with three pancake blocks. He’s a 6-foot-5, 240-pound two-year starter who said he’s most proud of the two junior running backs he blocks for, Ant Foster and Farrika Grier. Johnson helped them and the Bruins rush for 292 yards on Friday.
