Fort Mill Yellow Jackets post win at renovated Bob Jones Stadium
In the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets first home game at a renovated Bob Jones Stadium, not everything went as planned for the Jackets, but they did come away with a 35-33 win over Greenville.
The scoreboard didn’t work, so knowing down and distance was hard to keep up with along with game time, which was kept on the field.
Then at the end of the first quarter, both teams were sent to the locker room because of lighting.
The delay lasted an hour and 20 minutes.
Neither team was able to get much momentum going their way.
Turning point
The Jackets’ Ryan Deluca picked off a Greenville pass on the Red Raiders first drive in the third quarter, giving the ball back to Fort Mill and stopping the back-and-fourth flow that was ongoing at that point.
Fort Mill scored on the next drive, made up of just eight plays, but it gave the Jackets a 28-18 lead.
Critical
After getting hurt earlier in the drive, Fort Mill’s Ronnie Hughes came back in the game, capping off the Jackets first drive in the third quarter off with an 18-yard touchdown run to give Fort Mill a 21-18 lead. The touchdown capped off a seven play drive.
Star contributions
Wells led the Fort Mill offense on the ground and through the air as well. Wells threw for 119 yards, but also ran for 79 yards as well. Deluca caught two passes for 53 yards. Ferguson ran for 137 yards on 21 carries.
Overheard
“We have to have so much more focus next week,” Fort Mill head coach Ed Susi said. “We got a lot of holes to fix and fill. That was a great game. They have a great offense.”
