Falcons tear through Greenville for second straight shutout
The Nation Ford Falcons came out clicking on all cylinders offensively and defensively to pummel the Greenville Red Raiders 55-0.
Nation Ford went right at Greenville offensively as they scored on their opening two drives of the first quarter to set the pace.
The Falcons offense improved as the game wore on with senior quarterback Cole Martin hitting several different targets throughout the game. Nation Ford score three second quarter touchdown passes to put the game out of reach and take a 34-0 lead into the half.
For the second straight week, the Nation Ford defense played well going now eight quarters without allowing a score.
It was just Nation Ford's third shutout in school history.
"We are finally doing what we are suppose to do," said Nation Ford head coach Michael Allen. "The kids are working hard every week."
Turning point
Nation Ford came up with a key turnover right before the end of the first quarter giving the Falcons the ball with about 97 seconds left. Nation Ford would again put together an impressive drive with Martin using some fancy footwork to get away from some of the Red Raiders defensive line and find Hank Tuipulotu for a six-yard touchdown pass.
Critical
Nation Ford defense held Greenville scoreless on their first drive of the game leading 7-0 already. The Falcons would then take the ball and go 80-yards in nine plays to increase the Nation Ford lead. The first drive of the game for Greenville was the closest they would get to scoring.
Star contributions
Martin passed for 429 yards on 29-41 throwing with seven touchdown passes. Tuipulotu caught nine passes for 133 yards and Jordan Helms caught eight passes for 89 yards as the Falcons evened their record on the season.
Overheard
Martin said he wasn't worried about his numbers, but knew he hit several different receivers during the game and the numbers were piling up.
"I knew we had a pretty good game plan coming into the game," Martin said.
Allen said Martin would be the first person not to worry about his stats.
"When he is on the field, he is in charge," Allen said.
