High school football roundup: Andrew Jackson breaks losing streak with win over Great Falls
Andrew Jackson 35, Great Falls 13
The Volunteers won for the first time since the 2013 season with a convincing 35-13 victory over the Red Devils in Great Falls.
After playing to a 7-7 tie after one period the Volunteers scored a pair of second quarter touchdowns for a 21-7 lead at halftime. The added two more scorss in the third quarter before Great Falls scored in the final period.
Andrew Jackson improved to 1-2 with the win, while Great Falls fell to 0-4 with the loss.
Lancaster 35, Central 21
The Lancaster Bruins improved to 3-0 on the year with a convincing victory over the Central Eagles in Pageland.
The Bruins and Eagles traded touchdowns in the first quarter and second quarter, and it was tied 14-14 at halftime.
Lancaster scored in the third period for a 21-14 lead, and then in the final period the Bruins outscored the Eagles 14-7 to account for the final score.
The loss dropped Central to 0-3.
White Knoll 41, Clover 13
At Lexington, Calev Grubbs threw for 103 yards and rushd for another 99 and three touchdowns in White Knoll’s victory. Maurice Jones added a 124 yards on the ground, and Daniel Fulmer kicked a pair of field goals for the Timberwolves.
Clover dropped its second game in a row, but returns home next week against Blythewood.
River Bluff 35, Fort Mill 14
River Bluff had the ball nine fewer minutes than Fort Mill but took advantage of its possessions in a dominant win over the previously undefeated Yellow Jackets (3-1).
Gators QB Brandon Tillmon ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns, one of three River Bluff ball-carriers to top the 100-yard mark. David Bennett’s team only attempted four passes in the game and didn’t complete any.
Rogan Wells and Brett Ferguson each scored rushing touchdowns for Fort Mill, but Wells’ came much too late, the final score of the game. The Yellow Jackets are back at home next week against West Florence.
