Wilmore’s four touchdowns push York past Boiling Springs

The play summed up a frustrating Friday night for Boiling Springs in a 40-20 loss to York

York quarterback Wally Wilmore, on a second straight bad snap, scooped up a rolling football and started to run. He stopped and threw a 17-yard pass for a first down. The Cougars scored o the drive – Wilmore’s third of fourth touchdowns. for a 27-7 lead early in the second half.

Wilmore, a converted wide receiver playing quarterback because of an injury to the starter, had the York offense clicking all night – even turning negatives into positives.

“They gave us two chances right there,” Boiling Springs head coach Rick Tate said. “You can’t let a good football team out of jail like that. (Wilmore) is a very good athlete. When you have that guy back there, he can do it all. I know they have a quarterback who is hurt, but it must be nice to have a guy that good to fall back on.”

Boiling Springs (1-3) struggled to get anything going on offense in the first half, falling behind, 21-7. The Bulldogs scored on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Mason Streater to Travalas Massey, who broke three tackles at about the 25, kept his balance, and ran to the end zone.

York (4-1) had touchdown runs of 1, 8, 4 and 8 from Wilmore. His first one capped an 19-play drive that took more than six minutes. Brandon Garvin had a 1-yard touchdown run. The Cougars scored in the final minute on a 33-yarder by Paul Moore.
