Lancaster remains undefeated, tops Lewisville

. Lancaster took a 42-12 win over Lewisville in the on-and-off rain Friday to o close out its non-region football schedule at 5-0.

Lancaster scored twice in the first quarter as a high snap to the Lewisville punter sailed out of the end zone for a safety and quarterback Lions’ Darius Robinson threw a 17-yard toss to junior running back Ant Foster for an 8-0 lead.

Foster scored for Lancaster in the second quarters on a 10-yard run up the middle for a a 15-0 halftime lead,Lancaster dominated the third quarter with threeunanswered touchdowns – a run, a pass, and a Cordarious Tinsley’s punt return.

Turning point

A reverse to receiver Tinsley for a 12-yard touchdown run gave Lancaster a 22-0 lead in the third quarter. Tinsley also scored on a punt return with 19 seconds left in the third, sprinting past defeated Lewisville players up the left sideline despite having to scoop up a rolling football well inside Bruins’ territory.

Critical

Lewisville could not stop Lancaster’s offense, allowing six touchdowns. They failed to take advantage of the Bruins’ blunders, recovering just one of Lancaster's six fumbles. The only fumble recovery was late in the fourth quarter.

Star contributions

Lancaster running backs Farrika Grier and Ant Foster both eclipsed 100 rushing yards, combining for 245 yards rushing on 30 attempts.

Overheard

“I think they’re two of the best junior running backs in the state. They’re doing all the little things right. They allow themselves to be coached. They're not selfish. They're friends, they're like brothers,” said Lancaster coach Bobby Collins of Foster and Grier. Friday night Foster averages 7.5 yards per carry and Grier 9.3 yards per carry.

Lancaster faces region foe Chester at home Friday Oct. 2. Lewisville is at home, facing McBee. the top-ranked 1A team in the state. McBee is Lewisville’s third straight undefeated opponent.
