Top-10 performances from the weekend by local college football players

Andre Foulks, Wingate- senior from York posted a career-high 10 tackles, including two for a loss and two quarterback hurries, during Wingate’s 17-12 win over Limestone.

Wingate is the only undefeated team at any level left in North Carolina, with Foulks, who leads the team in tackles-for-loss, a big reason why. On Monday he was named the South Atlantic Conference’s defensive player of the week.

“Andre may be the hardest worker on our team,” Wingate head football coach Joe Reich said. “It's nice to see his hard work pay dividends.”

Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State- sophomore from Northwestern bounced back from a tough game last week to throw for 437 yards and three touchdowns and help the Cowboys stay undefeated with a 36-34 road win over Kansas State. Oklahoma State over-turned a 28-13 deficit.

Rudolph, who was named Co-Big 12 offensive player of the week, converted a critical fourth-and 8 to keep his team’s game-winning drive alive, before Ben Grogan’s field goal provided the decisive points with 32 seconds left.

Jamal Tyler, Pittsburg State (Kan.)- former Rock Hill Bearcat ran the ball five times for 88 yards and scored the winning touchdown as the Division II No. 15 Gorillas beat Missouri Western 31-27. Tyler’s 7-yard run with 1 minute, 23 seconds left put Pittsburg State on top for good.

Devin Pearson, Charlotte- former South Pointe quarterback made six tackles and broke up two passes from his starting safety spot, but couldn’t prevent the 49ers from falling to Temple 37-3 in the driving rain Friday night.

Worth Gregory, East Carolina- Fort Mill’s Gregory had a great afternoon kicking the football against Southern Methodist, downing all four of his punts inside the opposing 20-yard line. Gregory averaged over 45 yards per boot, with a long of 68. He’s averaging nearly 43 yards per kick this fall.

Tyrell Curry, Eastern Kentucky- Rock Hill’s Curry made a season-high nine tackles and broke up a pass during the Colonels’ 34-27 overtime loss to in-state SEC rival Kentucky. The 5-foot-8, 195-pound senior safety has 22 tackles in four games - all starts - for EKU.

J.T. Boyd, East Carolina- Nation Ford Falcon started at right guard as the Pirates rushed for a season-high 306 yards and allowed no quarterback sacks during a big win over conference foe Southern Methodist.

Jatavius Stewart, William Penn (Iowa)- Rock Hill’s Stewart continued his excellent senior season, catching a 57-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring during NAIA William Penn University’s 51-29 win over Avila (Mo.) on Saturday. Stewart caught two passes for 71 yards; he’s scored a touchdown in his last five games and is eighth in NAIA in total touchdowns (8).

Quan Caldwell, South Carolina State- former Chester Cyclone made four catches for 31 yards during the Bulldogs’ 17-3 loss to Furman. Caldwell, a redshirt freshman, started at receiver for Buddy Pough’s club.

Lee Wright, Youngstown State- former York Cougar made five tackles and recorded a sack during the Penguins’ 31-3 win over South Dakota.

Other locals’ performances

Corey Neely, Marshall- junior college transfer and former South Pointe player made a pair of tackles during Marshall’s 27-7 win over Old Dominion.

Anthony Johnson, Iowa Western Community College- Johnson, the former South Pointe receiver, made three catches for 19 yards during the Reivers’ 20-7 win over Garden City Community College. Johnson also returned a kickoff 19 yards.

Alstevis Squirewell, Newberry- Great Falls alum made a tackle and a sack during Newberry’s 17-13 loss to Catawba.

Ervin Moore, Concord University (W.Va.)- Lancaster product made six tackles during Concord’s 29-21 loss to Charleston.

Zeek Rodney, Wake Forest- South Pointe Shrine Bowler made a tackle and shared a tackle-for-loss during Wake Forest’s 24-16 loss to Florida State.

Arthur Williams, Pikeville (Ky.)- Lancaster alum made three tackles during Pikeville’s loss to Cumberland.

Tony Godbolt, North Greenville- Fort Mill grad made three tackles during North Greenville’s 38-14 win over Mars Hill.

Jeremy Massey, North Greenville- former South Pointe player had two tackles during the Crusaders’ win over Mars Hill.

Jerome Pettiway, South Carolina State- York Cougar hit seven punts during the Bulldogs’ loss to Furman, with two longer than 50 yards and a 44.6-yard average.

Shaheem Sanders, Mesabi Range Community College (Minn.)- Freshman from South Pointe made five catches for 25 yards during his team’s blowout loss to Central Lakes.

Rod Byers, Clemson- former Northwestern Trojan made a tackle during the Tigers’ 24-22 win over Clemson Saturday night.

Chris Bouyer, East Tennessee State- former Northwestern Shrine Bowl pick made a single tackle during the Bucs’ 58-9 loss to St. Francis.

Tay Hicklin, Georgia Southern- Hicklin (South Pointe) made three tackles during the Eagles’ 51-31 win over Louisiana-Monroe.

Landon Ard, South Carolina- kicker from South Pointe hit 2-of-3 kickoffs for touchbacks during the Gamecocks’ loss to Missouri Saturday.

Nate Casey, Davidson- Westminster Catawba’s Casey made four tackles during the Wildcats’ 42-35 Pioneer League loss to Valparaiso.
