Top-10 performances by local college football players from the weekend of Oct. 8
Jeremy Massey, North Greenville- former South Pointe Stallion intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards during North Greenville’s win over Ave Maria on Saturday.
Alstevis Squirewell, Newberry- another Saturday, another big game for the former Great Falls standout, Squirewell. He made nine tackles, including three for a loss, during Newberry’s 17-14 loss to Mars Hill.
Beau Nunn, Appalachian State- sophomore started at right tackle as the Mountaineers rushed for over 200 yards, part of a no-sacks-allowed, nearly 500-yard offensive effort in a 37-3 win over Georgia State.
Dijuan Ussery, Missouri Western- Nation Ford’s Ussery caught three passes for 61 yards, including a second quarter 40-yard touchdown pass that put the Griffons in front of Fort Hays State for good Saturday. Ussery is averaging 21 yards per catch. Missouri Western won 26-21.
Ervin Moore, Concord University (W.Va.)- Lancaster’s Moore made six tackles, including three for a loss of 21 combined yards, and two sacks during Concord’s 63-20 Homecoming win over Virginia-Wise.
Worth Gregory, East Carolina- junior from Fort Mill had another good game punting the football in a 45-38 loss to BYU. Gregory averaged 48.2 yards on four kicks, with a long of 57 yards and two downed inside the 20-yard line.
Gerald Dixon, South Carolina- South Pointe product made five tackles and forced a fumble during the Gamecocks’ 45-24 loss to LSU.
Gerald Dixon, Jr., South Carolina- Northwestern alum made six tackles and broke up a pass during the same game.
Arthur Williams, Pikeville (Ky.)- Lancaster’s Williams made nine tackles with 1.5 for loss during Pikeville’s 42-34 loss to Campbellsville.
Jaleel Scott, Ellsworth Community College (Iowa)- former Rock Hill Bearcat made four catches for 48 yards and a touchdown during Ellsworth’s 32-14 win over Fort Scott Community College.
Other notable performances
Abri Tate, Bryant University- Nation Ford’s Abri Tate had a fumble recovery during Bryant’s 35-33 loss to Central Connecticut State.
Andre Foulks, Wingate- senior defensive lineman made seven tackles, with one for a loss, and recorded three quarterback hurries during the Bulldogs’ 26-17 loss to Tusculum.
Nick Raszeja, LaGrange College (Ga.)- Fort Mill’s Raszeja made three tackles with a half tackle-for-loss during LaGrange’s 27-25 win over Greensboro College.
Devin Starnes, Tusculum- South Pointe grad made three tackles as Tusculum handed Wingate its first loss of the season, 26-17.
Akiven Williams, Apprentice School- The Builders lost 35-2 to Louisburg College, but Lewisville’s Williams made five tackles and broke up a pass.
Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State- Rudolph won his eighth straight start, but had plenty of help after throwing three interceptions during the Cowboys’ 33-26 overtime win against West Virginia. Rudolph was 20-of-40 passing for 218 yards.
Andrew Komornik, Gardner-Webb- Nation Ford’s Komornik hit seven punts for a 37.4-yard average, with three downed inside the 20-yard line. GWU upset No. 15 Liberty 34-20.
Stewart Hunt, North Greenville- former Northwestern receiver caught a pass for 10 yards during the Crusaders’ 49-13 blowout of Ave Maria.
Logan Ard, Limestone- former South Pointe kicker hit a 31-yard field goal during the Saints’ 10-3 loss to Catawba.
Lee Wright, Youngstown State- Former York Cougar Wright made three tackles during the Penguins’ 31-29 loss to Illinois State.
Zeek Rodney, Wake Forest- South Pointe’s Rodney made one tackle as the Demon Deacons defense shut down Boston College in a 3-0 ACC win.
Tyrell Curry, Eastern Kentucky- Rock Hill High product made two tackles as EKU beat Tennessee Tech 48-17 last Thursday.
Quan Caldwell, South Carolina State- Chester’s Caldwell made one catch for 21 yards during the Bulldogs’ 17-14 loss to Bethune-Cookman.
Landon Ard, South Carolina- South Pointe Stallion had three touchbacks on five kickoffs in the Gamecocks’ loss to LSU.
Rod Byers, Clemson- former Northwestern Trojan made two tackles and broke up a pass during the Tigers’ 43-24 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Mitchell Jeter, The Citadel- Rock Hill High’s Jeter made three tackles as The Citadel broke a lengthy losing streak against Wofford with a 39-12 win over the Terriers.
Nate Casey, Davidson- Westminster Catawba product made four tackles as the Wildcats beat Kentucky Wesleyan 14-7 in overtime.
