High school roundup: Trojans, McBee roll to routs
Northwestern 63, Clover 0
The Northwestern Trojans piled up 450 yards in total offense and added a dominating defensive effort to top the Clover Blue Eagles 63-0 in a Region 3-4A contest at Clover.
The 63-point margin of victory was the largest in the school’s history.
The Trojans scored twice in the first period, and added three more touchdowns in the second quarter for a 35-0 lead at intermission.
Quarterback Gage Moloney ran for two of the Northwestern scores in the first half on plays covering one and eight yards. He also passed for three touchdowns in the first half.
Julius Shockley caught two of Moloney’s touchdown strikes. The first covered 12 yards and the second was for nine yards. Jordan Starks got the third scoring pass from Moloney when he caught one from two yards out with only 30 seconds remaining in the first half.
Davion Blake got the Trojans started in the second half by returning the kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Dequez Harris’ three-yard run late in the quarter made it 49-0.
Will Hagood passed to Cory McCoy for 24 yards and a score early in the fourth period, and Jaedon Gladden completed the scoring by picking up a Clover fumble and racing 22 yards for a touchdown.
Moloney finshed the night with 23 completions in 27 attempts for 327 yards. Starks had eight catches for 126 yards, while Jamario Holley hauled in five passes for 39 yards.
The Northwestern defense held Clover to only 112 total yards and four first downs. Cody Payne led the Blue Eagles offensively with 51 yards on 13 carries.
The win improved Northwestern to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the region. Clover fell to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in region play with the loss.
Indian Land 28, North Central 21 (OT)
The Indian Land Warriors came from behind in the fourth quarter to tie the game and went on to edge the North Central Knights in overtime in a Region 4-2A contest at North Central.
The Knights scored twice in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and took that same score to the dressing room at halftime.
Both teams scored a touchdown in the third quarter, and when they headed for the final period, North Central was in front 21-7. The Warriors rallied for 14 points in the final stanza to tie the count at 21-21 to send the game to overtime.
Indian Land is now 5-3 overall and even at 2-2 in the region after the win. North Central dropped to 3-5 in all games and 0-3 in the region with the loss.
McBee 84, Great Falls 0
The top-ranked McBee Panthers raced to a 55-0 halftime lead and routed the Great Falls Red Devils 84-0 in a Region 3-A contest at McBee.
McBee improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in region play with the victory, while Great Falls fell to 1-7 in all games and 1-1 in the region with the loss.
