Tri-County players of the year announced

The Tri-County Coaches Association voted on its end of year awards on Tuesday in Richburg:

4A

Offensive player of the year: Cole Martin, Nation Ford- senior quarterback finished the regular season completing 294-of-442 passes for 4,269 yards and 41 touchdowns, with just seven interceptions for 7-4 Nation Ford. Martin was also named to the Parade All-American watch list on Monday.

Defensive player of the year: Logan Rudolph, Northwestern- junior defensive end took the prize in a close vote. Rudolph finished the regular season with 43 tackles, nine quarterback pressures and nine quarterback sacks, six tackles-for-loss, three forced fumbles, three recovered fumbles and an interception.

Coach of the year: Kyle Richardson, Northwestern- Richardson took the award after guiding his Trojans to 10 straight regular season wins. Northwestern finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the state in 4A football.

1A, 2A, 3A

Offensive player of the year: Ant Foster, Lancaster- the first part of a Lancaster sweep, Foster has amassed 1,261 yards and 17 touchdowns on 193 carries through 10 games.

Defensive player of the year: Markees Watts, Lancaster- the sophomore defensive end was a nearly unanimous choice for the top defensive player in the 1A, 2A, 3A schools category. Watts has 88 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, 12 sacks, two blocked field goals and a blocked punt to his name so far.

Coach of the year: Bobby Collins, Lancaster- Collins has led the Bruins to consecutive seasons of at least eight wins for the first time since Johnny Roscoe guided five straight Lancaster teams to at least eight-win campaigns in the mid-1990s. Collins’ team isn’t done yet; it hosts Wren in the first round of the 3A playoffs Friday night.

Note: The Tri-County schools include Fort Mill, Nation Ford, Clover, York, Rock Hill, Northwestern, Indian Land, Lewisville, Lancaster and Andrew Jackson. South Pointe and Great Falls haven’t attended meetings this year.

And the final 4A Tri-County awards went to...

Offensive player of the week: Gage Moloney, Northwestern- junior QB completed 24-of-39 passes for 408 yards, and also ran the ball eight times for 100 yards, most of that coming on a 91-yard touchdown run. Moloney only played the first three quarters of the Trojans’ win over Gaffney.

Co-defensive players: Vinny Catan, Nation Ford, and Marcus Snyder, York- both of these linebackers piled up tackles last Friday. Catan had 20 stops, including two for a loss, during Nation Ford’s win over Rock Hill. Snyder had 21 tackles, including two third down stops, and recovered a fumble during the Cougars’ victory against Clover.

Offensive lineman: Danny Warren, York- junior procured nine knockdown blocks and graded 90 percent during the Cougars’ win against Clover.

Defensive lineman: Deivonne Chalk, York- senior defensive end produced 12 tackles and three tackles-for-loss against Clover.

Special teams: Myles Prosser, York- kicker hit all five of his extra point attempts, hit 5-of-6 kickoffs for touchbacks and averaged 37.5 yards on two punts against Clover.
