All four York County schools in 4A Division II football playoff bracket
Richland Northeast’s 38-6 win over Emerald on Fridayin the first round of the 3A playoffs created a ripple through the 4A classification. It was the Cavaliers’ sixth win, making them a winning 3A team, changing point tallies for schools across the state.
One of the resulting contests in the 4A Division II bracket is No. 11 seed Nation Ford making the short trek to No. 6 York. The Cougars beat the Falcons 42-28 in the regular season and it’s the two schools first-ever postseason meeting. Nation Ford has never won a 4A playoff game; it’s first playoff win in school history was on the road in 2011 at 3A Clinton.
Northwestern and Fort Mill both played in Division I last season, but are in Division II this year. All four York County 4A playoff schools are in the Division II bracket.
Northwestern hosts Laurens, while Fort Mill will travel to Lexington. Laurens beat Greenville and Greenwood to finish 6-5 and reach the postseason, while Lexington finished the regular season 10-1 and ranked in the state on the strength of a 10-game winning streak. Lexington lost its season opener to Westside. before winning the rest of its games, precisely what Northwestern did after its season-opening loss to Byrnes.
