Hawgs of the Year: Northwestern’s Buckson, Lancaster’s Johnson
The 2015 Hawgs of the Year are Northwestern’s Demontre Buckson and Lancaster’s Lewis Johnson.
Buckson produced 14 pancake and eight knockdown blocks during the regular season, while grading 93 percent for the Trojans. Buckson was a rock for Northwestern, which experienced upheaval on its offensive line throughout the season due to injuries. He played center and guard, and despite standing just 5-foot-10, 250 pounds, was the best blocker on a team averaging 48 points per game.
Johnson was another one of the best around. The 6-foot-4 senior left tackle was selected to the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 12, and was also an All-Region first team pick from Region 3-3A. Johnson was an anchor for a talented and experienced offensive line that paved the way for the Bruins to average nearly 225 yards rushing per game.
