Rock Hill Bearcats close out spring practice with injury-free scrimmage
It's hard to take much from high school football spring scrimmages, like the one Rock Hill High held Wednesday night at District Three Stadium.
Those pretty meaningless scrimmages can take plenty from high school football teams, though.
"You want to get out there and execute and you want to come out healthy," said Rock Hill coach Bubba Pittman. "Last year we had two big injuries in the spring game and this year everybody came out healthy. That's the big thing and we did that this year."
Coming off a 2-9 season, the Bearcats need everybody in top shape headed into the summer, before a fall training camp in which they need to make some big strides, especially on defense. Rock Hill had one of the best defensive units in the area last fall but graduated a number of key contributors.
The inexperience was evident Wednesday night at District Three Stadium, and after surrendering an opening drive touchdown to the Bearcat offense, defensive coordinator Mike Biddix had his defensive players doing up-downs on the sidelines.
As much as Rock Hill coaches will see from the scrimmage film that they want to fix, there won’t be much opportunity in the coming months. Wednesday night was the last contact action that Rock Hill football players will see until August. The Bearcats turned in their pads for the summer when they got back to the school.
