Owens, Knights smack Red Sox silly in Pawtucket
PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Jerry Owens smacked a homer and drove in five runs as Charlotte cruised past the Red Sox, 14-2.
Owens lifted a sacrifice fly in a two-run fifth inning to give the Knights (36-49) a 4-0 lead. He ripped his third homer of the season, a three-run shot, to cap a seven-run seventh and walked with the bases loaded in the eighth for his fifth RBI.
Charlotte's Wiki Gonzalez, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, belted his ninth homer to lead off the third. He also delivered RBI singles in the sixth and seventh.
Gavin Floyd (7-3) allowed two runs on three hits, striking out six and walking six over five frames to pick up the win.
Jake Robbins, Jason Childers, Ehren Wassermann and Eduardo Sierra tossed a scoreless inning apiece to close it out for the Knights.
Michael Tucker and Jeff Bailey each drove in a run for the Red Sox (35-45).
Mike Burns (0-6) surrendered four runs -- one earned -- on five hits, fanning four and walking three over five innings to take the loss.
