Longoria, Bulls squeak by Knights

Evan Longoria stroked a go-ahead double in the eighth inning as visiting Durham rallied past Charlotte, 4-3, on Sunday.

With the score tied, 3-3, Jon Weber singled to open the eighth and scored on Longoria's hit to center field. Longoria, who made his Triple-A debut on Aug. 2, also walked and scored on Wes Bankston's sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Justin Ruggiano hit an RBI double and Weber followed with a run-scoring single in the fifth to help the Bulls (66-55) erase an early three-run deficit.

Durham starter Jae Seo (6-3) ended a personal two-game skid after giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out seven over seven innings. Chad Orvella worked around two hits and a walk in the ninth for his 17th save.

Earl Snyder and Tomas Perez lined consecutive RBI doubles in the first for the Knights (54-68).

Charlotte's Carlos Vasquez (2-3) allowed a run on a hit and a walk with three strikeouts over two frames. Starter Nick Masset surrendered three runs on five hits and three walks while fanning seven over five innings.
