Knights drop both games of doubleheader to Bulls

FORT MILL -- It was a long night for the Charlotte Knights as they dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Durham Bulls. The Knights fell 6-2 in the first game and 3-1 in the second game.

In game one starting pitcher Lance Broadway took the loss as he went 5 1-3 innings and allowed all six Durham runs. It was Broadway's second loss of the season as his record moves to 5-2. The Knights were happy to see the return of third baseman Josh Fields, who appeared in his first game since coming off the disabled list. Fields hit an RBI ground-rule double in his first at-bat of the game.

The Knights kept things close in game No. 2 and were pushing for a late rally. The Knights had the tying run at the plate in first baseman Jeff Liefer with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Liefer got robbed on a great defensive grab by Durham second baseman Andy Cannizaro, which started a game ending double play.

The Knights continue this week on the road against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs for a four-game series. That will be followed up with four games at the Rochester Red Wings. The next homestand for the Knights begins on May 30.
