Who’s in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

A quick look at the 20 drivers entered in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway and how they have fared in the race historically:

A.J. Allmendinger

Starts: Three

Best finish: 11th

Comment: He’s made the All-Star Race three times with three different teams.

Aric Almirola

Starts: One

Best finish: N/A

Comment: Almirola will be making his first appearance thanks to his first career win last season at Daytona.

Greg Biffle

Starts: 11

Best finish: Second

Comment: Led all 20 laps to win the first segment of the Sprint Showdown to gain entry to the All-Star Race.

Clint Bowyer

Starts: Six

Best finish: Seventh

Comment: Bowyer won the second segment of the Showdown.

Kurt Busch

Starts: 13

Best finish: First (2010)

Comment: Although he missed the first three races of the season, Busch has already clinched a spot in the Chase. A big bonus check wouldn’t hurt.

Kyle Busch

Starts: Nine

Best finish: Second

Comment: He’s back. Busch’s first race of the 2015 season will be one with $1 million on the line.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Starts: 15

Best finish: First (2000)

Comment: Is there someone in NASCAR who could party harder with $1 million?

Carl Edwards

Starts: Nine

Best finish: First (2011)

Comment: Still looking for his first win of the season. The All-Star Race is not a bad place to start.

Jeff Gordon

Starts: 21

Best finish: First (1995, 1997, 2001)

Comment: A final all-star win for his final season in the Cup series?

Denny Hamlin

Starts: Eight

Best finish: Fourth

Comment: Joe Gibbs Racing is still looking for its first all-star victory, too.

Kevin Harvick

Starts: 14

Best finish: First (2007).

Comment: He’s had the fastest car for going on two seasons but fast doesn’t always win this race.

Jimmie Johnson

Starts: 13

Best finish: First (2003, 2006, 2012, 2013)

Comment: Charlotte Motor Speedway is practically “The House that Jimmie Built,” or at least redeveloped.

Kasey Kahne

Starts: 11

Best finish: First (2008)

Comment: The only driver to win the All-Star Race after advancing into the field through the Fan Vote.

Matt Kenseth

Starts: 14

Best finish: First (2004)

Comment: It’s been a decade since he won, but I bet Kenseth still has some of the money saved.

Brad Keselowski

Starts: Six

Best finish: Second

Comment: The soon-to-be-dad could use some extra cash to stack up on diapers.

Joey Logano

Starts: Four

Best finish: Second

Comment: Has quickly become one of NASCAR’s top talents and an all-star win would be icing on the cake.

Jamie McMurray

Starts: Eight

Best finish: First (2014)

Comment: His victory last season validated the changes made by his Chip Ganassi Racing team to improve performance.

Ryan Newman

Starts: 13

Best finish: First (2002)

Comment: Could definitely use a change of topic after harsh NASCAR penalties assessed to his team this season.

Danica Patrick

Starts: One

Best finish: 20th

Comment: For the second time in her career, Danica Patrick gains entry to the All-Star Race by winning the Sprint Fan Vote.

Tony Stewart

Starts: 16

Best finish: First (2009)

Comment: An all-star win would certainly help salvage what has been a very trying season thus far.
