Local NFL players roundup: Adams with the pick
Phillip Adams made a single tackle, defended a pass and intercepted San Francisco QB Blaine Gabbert during Atlanta’s 17-16 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
Adams intercepted a pass intended for Jerome Simpson in the third quarter, but Atlanta couldn’t take advantage and produce points. The pick was the fifth of Adams’ NFL career and his first in the Falcons’ colors.
Stephon Gilmore, Buffalo- The Bills handled Miami 33-17, with Gilmore making three tackles and successfully defending a pass in the win. Gilmore’s 15 passes defended is third-best in the NFL, behind his teammate, rookie Ronald Darby, and Carolina Panthers corner Josh Norman, who both have 17.
Jonathan Meeks, Buffalo- The former Rock Hill High standout made a pair of tackles during the Bills’ win over Miami. Meeks made special teams tackles on Miami kickoff returns in the second and fourth quarters.
Benjamin Watson, New Orleans- Watson caught all five passes thrown his way by Drew Brees Sunday, finishing with five catches for 60 yards during the Saints’ loss to Tennessee in overtime. Watson is fourth among the league’s tight ends in receptions this season, with 43, and is third in his position group with 10 catches of 20-plus yards.
Vance Walker, Denver- Fort Mill grad made three tackles during Denver’s loss to Indianapolis.
Cordarrelle Patterson, Minnesota- The Vikings improved to 6-2 with a narrow win over St. Louis. Former Northwestern Trojan Patterson returned three kickoffs for 75 combined yards, with a long of 42.
