Scott Paul, the Carolina Panthers director of stadium operations, echoed coach Ron Rivera in his confidence in the field turf for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

Paul said Friday that they did not need to re-sod the field after the Belk Bowl on Wednesday because “we had confidence” the field would hold up.

“Any time you get a lot of rain, especially 2 inches on a game day, it gets chewed up a little more,” Paul said. “But we’re real happy with the way it performed.”

The grounds crew did re-sod enough of the field to replace the Belk Bowl logo with the gold NFL shield. They will re-sod the field after Sunday’s game in preparation for the playoffs.

The Panthers have re-sodded the field twice already this year. With the rain during a Week 8 game against the Indianapolis Colts, Paul didn’t feel comfortable playing out the rest of the season with that field.

Typically the grounds crew only re-sods the field before the ACC Championship Game.
