Ottawa Senators Acquire William Eklund From San Jose Sharks
The Ottawa Senators acquired left winger William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks two days after trading Brady Tkachuk.
Ottawa receives Eklund, right winger Kasper Halttunen and the rights to prospect center Brandon Svoboda from the Sharks in exchange for the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NHL draft. The No. 9 pick originally came from the Florida Panthers in Sunday's Tkachuk trade.
Eklund had 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points in 78 games with the Sharks this season.
Sharks Acquire Ninth Overall Pick, Reunite Eklund with Fabian Zetterlund in Ottawa
Shortly after Mike Grier left his pre-draft media availability, the San Jose Sharks' general manager got right back to work. The Sharks have traded forwards William Eklund, Kasper Halttunen, and Brandon Svoboda to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for the ninth overall selection in Friday's NHL Draft.
As for the Sharks, they now have the second, ninth, and 20th overall picks in the 2026 draft.
After speculation regarding whether the Sharks would select a forward or a defenseman second overall, they have now traded one of their top two left wingers. At least one of two left wingers, Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg, will be available when they're on the clock with the second selection.
