A BMX national event, hoops tournament in Rock Hill this weekend. What to know.

Rock Hill is hosting another national sporting event.

This Labor Day weekend, the annual USA BMX Labor Day Classic National will be at the Rock Hill BMX/Supercross Track, and it’s expected to draw approximately 1,000 riders, the city of Rock Hill’s parks, recreation and tourism director John Taylor said.

The event is putting in place several COVID-19 precautions: There will be sanitizing stations throughout the venue. Event staff and volunteers will wear masks and all staff will have their temperatures taken. Spectators will be asked to adhere to social distancing and wear masks.

Also, USA BMX will broadcast of the weekend’s races live via Facebook, YouTube and on usabmx.com/webcast at no additional cost.

“This is one of the events that we get people from all over the country, so we’re happy about that,” Taylor said. “And the BMX event coupled with the basketball event at the indoor center, the softball event at Cherry Park and also some soccer going on — we got a very busy weekend, and it should be a good economic driver definitely for our community.”

The main event on Friday begins at 1:30 p.m., according to an event flyer. The Saturday main race begins at 11:30 a.m., and the Sunday one begins at 8 a.m. Practice runs are available for different ages in the times leading up to the race.

The track is at 1307 Riverwalk Parkway, just off S.C. Highway 21 near the Catawba River.

The Rock Hill Police Department is providing security.

The track has hosted several high-profile events since opening in August 2014, including BMX World Championships, which came in 2017 and will come again in 2024.
