Rawlinson Road reopened after fire at abandoned house

KRT

Rawlinson Road has reopened after a fire at an abandoned house Tuesday afternoon, emergency officials said.

Rock Hill school spokesman Mychal Frost warned earlier Tuesday that the fire on Rawlinson Road may affect afternoon dismissal at Rawlinson Road Middle School and Northwestern High School.

Frost said the fire was not on school grounds, but the shutdown of Rawlinson Road may affect traffic.

The road was closed near the intersection of S.C. 5, according to Rock Hill schools.

Afternoon bus routes may be delayed, the district warned.

Rock Hill Fire Department Deputy Chief Mark Simmons said the fire was at a vacant house accross from Rawlinson Road Baptist Church.

The fire is in the jurisdiction of Newport Fire Department, which also responded to the scene, Simmons said.

Simmons said the damage is extensive and the house is a “complete, total loss.”
