Closed York County highway a 'total washout' from sinkhole, trooper says
Part of McConnells Highway, or S.C. 322, in York County is closed indefinitely after a sink hole opened up, according to South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Lance Cpl. Joel Hovis with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a section of the highway is a "total washout."
The cause of the sinkhole is unclear but a small section of the road has completely collapsed into a swampy area just west of where State Road S-46-992 hits McConnells Highway.
Hovis said S.C. Department of Transportation was at the site as of Saturday afternoon, but the road will be closed "at least through Monday."
Detours have been set up on S.C. 324 and Gordon Road, according to DPS.
No other details were available immediately.
