York County parent fired gun in the air at school bus stop, deputies say
A parent fired a gun in the air at a York County school bus stop early Wednesday, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report.
The man told deputies he was trying to chase a dog away, the report says.
The principal of Bethany Elementary School in Clover called the sheriff’s office when the bus driver reported the incident, the report says.
The driver told the principal that a man ran up to the bus, which was stopped on Forest View Road at around 6:30 a.m., and fired a handgun in the air, the report says.
Deputies said they determined through an investigation that the man’s daughter was waiting for the bus and got scared when a white dog ran up.
Deputies said she called for her father, who ran toward the bus with a flashlight and fired his handgun in the air to chase the dog away, the report says.
The man told deputies he had recently seen a video of a black panther nearby, and that this dog had been acting especially aggressive, the report says.
The man was issued a summons for violation of the county ordinance of discharging a firearm, the report says.
