Body of New York man discovered in Fort Mill; Sheriff’s deputies investigating
York County deputies are conducting a death investigation near Fort Mill after a person from New York was found dead along a road, officials said.
It remains unclear why the body of a man from Upstate New York was in South Carolina, officials said.
The body was discovered late Thursday in the 2700 block of Doby’s Bridge Road near Fort Mill, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office.
The body of Michael Aaron Ingraham, 55, was found by a passing driver, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said in a statement. It is believed the body had been there for a few days, Gast said.
An autopsy and toxicology testing are pending.
Seeking publi’cs help
Officials have not released a cause or manner of death.
Ingraham was from Endicott, N.Y, the sheriff’s office said in a statement late Friday. Endicott is near Binghamton, northeast of New York City, and south of Syracuse.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help with any information or leads on Ingraham’s activities since the beginning of January 2023. Ingraham has no known family or acquaintances in York County or surrounding areas, deputies said.
Details about the probe have not been released, but the York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said in a statement there is not believed to be any danger to the public.
Residential area in northern York County
The area south of Charlotte is near the Town of Fort Mill in northern York County. Fort Mill Police Department officers assisted deputies Thursday with traffic and other duties as the area was searched.
Doby’s Bridge Road runs from Tom Hall Street in Fort Mill through unincorporated York County to Lancaster County.
