York County father on probation for leaving kids in truck now charged with cocaine use
The York County father of four sentenced two weeks ago to probation for leaving his children in a truck for hours has been arrested for allegedly violating probation and testing positive for cocaine use, according to jail and probation officials.
If convicted, Jason Ray Grant could face the 10-year prison sentence that was suspended when he pleaded guilty June 22.
Grant, 39, pleaded guilty to four counts of felony child neglect after leaving his children in a truck for almost four hours in November 2015 while he was in a gas station bathroom. Prosecutors called it luck that Grant’s children were not harmed after Grant left them unsupervised with a gun and ammunition accessible. The children were ages 13, 11, 7, and 5.
Prosecutors said drugs had been found in his possession in the gas station bathroom.
Grant was arrested last Wednesday and is being held without bond at the York County jail. He tested positive for cocaine use, probation officials said. Officials also allege Grant failed to report to his probation agent, failed to give truthful information to the agent, failed to refrain from drug use, failed to give an ordered urine sample, and failed to follow the advice of the agent.
Grant in June was given a suspended 10-year sentence after prosecutors had asked for prison time as well as a requirement that he enter an in-patient drug treatment program. Grant went through alternative prosecution drug treatment court in 2007. Drug charges against Grant were dropped as part of his plea agreement.
A hearing for Grant on the new allegations is set for July 25, probation officials said.
