Update: Coroner identifies Rock Hill stabbing victim
Police are investigating the stabbing death of an elderly man who was found inside his apartment by a maintenance worker Thursday.
Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. Thursday to a home on the 300 block of Hutchinson Street, where a man was found with lacerations to his head and chest, according to a Rock Hill police report. A maintenance worker with Rock Hill Housing Authority said he was at the complex with an exterminator to treat the property.
York County Coroner Sabrina Gast on Saturday identified the victim as Walter Faile, 77. Autopsy and toxicology are pending.
The maintenance worker told officers no one answered the door when he knocked, so he entered with a key. They found Faile lying on his back on the floor in a pool of blood with lacerations on him.
The worker called 911 but the victim was already dead, police said. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Anyone with information about the case should call York County Crime Stoppers at 877-409-4321.
