Report: Man flashed gun while stealing drill from Lake Wylie store
Warrants have been issued for the man accused of presenting a gun as he walked out of a Lake Wylie store with a drill that he didn’t pay for, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. Monday at Lowe’s on Highway 557, according to a sheriff’s report.
Authorities say James John Abernathy, 24, presented a gun before stealing a drill. He was carrying what appears to be a silver revolver in a holster on his hip. As he passed the register, Abernathy lifted his shirt to show the revolver and unsnapped the holster, according to York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris.
He fled in an older silver Toyota minivan without a license plate.
Warrants have been issued charging him with armed robbery.
Detectives believe Abernathy is possibly in the Clover, Lake Wylie or Gaston County, NC areas. If anyone has any information on Abernathy, they are asked to call the York County Sheriffs Office at 803-628-3059 or Crime Stoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321.
