York County deputies are investigating after someone shot a kitten multiple times with a BB gun, according to law enforcement records.

Deputies responded to a home on Plaxco Road on July 16 after a 58-year-old woman reported a problem with an unidentified person “shooting at a kitten in her yard,” according to a sheriff’s report.

The woman told deputies someone shot the cat with a BB gun, and that the kitten, which was 8 weeks old at the time, had damage to its right eye from a BB.

The woman took the kitten to a York veterinarian, where it was found to have been shot multiple times, deputies said. One pellet was found in the kitten’s lung. The kitten had BBs removed from it and might need to have its right eye removed.

No suspects have been arrested, but the incident report lists a 16-year-old boy as a possible suspect.

Vera Wilson, the cat’s owner, told WSOC-TV, The Herald’s news partner, that the kitten belongs to her grandchild. They have named it Survivor.

“He had called the kitty cat, saying you know, ‘Here kitty,’ like that, to come out to him,’” Wilson said of the shooter. “And when the cat came out to him, he shot it.”

A veterinarian said Survivor is eating and appears to be recovering.
