Three Rock Hill schools placed on preventative lockdown Monday morning, lockdown lifted
Three Rock Hill schools were put on preventative lockdown Monday morning, but it was lifted shortly after.
Rock Hill High School, Castle Heights Middle School and Independence Elementary School were put on lockdown, according to the district.
School district officials said they did not have further information Monday morning. By 11 a.m., schools were returning to normal operations.
Trent Faris, spokesperson with the York County Sheriff’s Office, said three teenagers were seen spray painting a building off Marine Drive in Rock Hill. As police responded, Faris said the suspects ran toward Rock Hill High School. The sheriff’s office suggested the district put the nearby schools on a preventative lockdown.
“We didn’t know what (the suspects’) intentions were,” Faris said.
All three suspects were taken into custody, Faris said.
