Popbar has announced it will close its Camp North End location, making it the latest in a series of changes to the Charlotte gathering spot.
“After 4 years, our lease at Camp North End is coming to an end, & this Popbar location will be closing its pink door on August 18th,” Popbar posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 13. “We’re so grateful for all the love and support you’ve shown us!”
The New York-based dessert shop, known for its signature sweet treats made of gelato, sorbet yogurt on a stick, made its Charlotte debut nearly a decade ago when Kia and Clarence Lyons opened its iconic purple pop-up shop in NoDa in 2017.
A few years later, toward the beginning of the pandemic, the couple expanded with a second franchise location as the 11th food and drink tenant at Camp North End.
“The uniqueness of the property and its commitment to the Charlotte community aligns perfectly with our values of quality, service and authenticity. We are so thrilled to be joining the exciting retail lineup at the site and look forward to opening our shop in time for the summer season,” the couple said before its summer 2020 opening.
Now, the couple is closing the chapter on their time at Camp North End, but you’ll still be able to get the iconic popbars at its OG location in NoDa. Don’t worry. The POPtruck & POPcycle aren’t going anywhere either, so the team is still planning to pop-up at various events throughout the city.
Popbar is the latest food and drink business to close its doors at Camp North End, where some entrepreneurs including Wentworth & Fenn owner Samantha Ward have been calling out for community support amid a summer slump in customers.
Nationally acclaimed restaurant Leah & Louise closed with plans to reopen in Charlotte’s historic West End neighborhood, while the Saru Ramen and Bleu Barn Bistro food stalls recently called it quits altogether. (A new food stall, Blasian Asian Way, is set to take over Saru’s spot in early September.)
‘Thank you for all the sweet memories’
Though Popbar’s Camp North End location is closing on the 18th, the team is hosting a back to school Bubble Bash closing party the day before with special performances from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Thank you for all the sweet memories. We hope to see you at the party AND at our NoDa location,” Popbar stated in its Instagram post.
