A new boba tea spot is about to open in a growing part of York County
A spot on S.C. 49 once known for bait, tackle and haircuts is increasingly becoming a food stop.
A new boba tea place opens this month, right beside where Meat Mafia Steaks opened last fall. Both are in the 4070 Charlotte Highway building not far off Lake Wylie, and long known for the bait and tackle shop that operated there.
Jeanette Orban is the owner of Big Time Boba. The former Lakeside Barbers space at suite 102 will serve boba tea and coffee, while offering board games and eclectic items. Orban said Big Time Boba should open before month’s end.
“I’m close,” Orban said Thursday morning. “I’m not quite there. I now see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
The barbershop closed at the end of October. Orban moved to the area seven months ago from Cleveland.
”It’s been a new world, but I really love it here,” Orban said.
Orban wanted to open a shop in Cleveland, and saw new possibility with the move.
”I guess I just chickened out,” Orban said. “But the opportunity was here.”
Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. once the store opens. Summer hours may vary. With a teen and near teen at home, Orban wants to create a fun hangout type space for the entire community. One older neighbors and young families alike can enjoy.
”People are here,” Orban said. “They want it. I want to try to hit as many people as possible. I just want to provide something.”
The building Orban joins also has a Smoker’s Cabinet, in addition to Meat Mafia. Smoker’s Cabinet has five spots in York County, including Rock Hill and Fort Mill. Meat Mafia offers beef, pork, poultry and seafood.
