Well-known restaurant owner planning a speakeasy lounge concept for downtown Rock Hill
The owner of one of Rock Hill’s best known downtown eateries is expanding.
Rob Masone plans to open a new lounge called Kounter Lounge in the two-story space at 135 E. Main St. occupied by Edward Jones. The two-story space will have charcuterie, dessert and an extensive cocktail menu, according to Visit York County.
Masone already operates Kounter and Kre8 Xperiences.
“The goal is to bring a much-needed, elevated experience to Rock Hill’s Main Street,” Masone said in Tuesday’s announcement. “I envision Kounter Lounge to be a space for upscale client meetings and that generates more foot traffic in downtown Rock Hill after typical dinner hours.”
Private seating with partitions and a bar overlooking Main Street will be downstairs. Upstairs, a speakeasy concept called Elsie’s — named for Masone’s grandmother — will operate. An heirloom piano will provide live music.
Masone said the new spot will make its own dry ice, smoked cocktail and herbal infusions from local gardens and South Carolina vendors.
“We’ll even have a large-scale herb garden display for bartenders to pick from,” Masone said.
Elsie’s will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays. Membership there will offer expanded hours and perks.
Construction should begin in October with a spring 2024 completion planned.
