A new grocery store for Indian Land, plus more than 700 homes, townhomes, apartments
Partners in a new Indian Land mixed-use development announced more details Tuesday, including plans for a Lowes Foods grocery store.
Real estate investment company FCP and Crosland Southeast announced groundbreaking at The Exchange at Indian Land. The property at Charlotte Highway and Possum Hollow Road will have a new shopping center with the grocery store and 20,000 square feet of retail space.
A three- and four-story apartment community will have 400 units, plus another 35,000 square feet of retail. Homebuilder Taylor Morrison will construct more than 300 townhomes. The first apartments should be ready in early 2024.
FCP senior vice president Alex Cathcart said in announcing the project that it’s located well in the Charlotte market.
Yates Dunaway, senior vice president for Crosland Southeast, said the mix of uses should be attractive for incoming residents. “We’re eager to get dirt moving after nearly two years of planning,” Dunaway said.
Crosland applied for Lancaster County planning commission review for the project in August 2021.
The submitted plan was for 720 apartments and townhomes with 70,000 square feet of commercial space. The 130-acre project at 8918 Charlotte Hwy. showed the then-unnamed grocery store central to the property, with four outparcel retail spaces along the main highway, each at more than an acre. The plan showed a dozen apartment buildings at 30 or 40 units each.
Plans also showed a proposed traffic signal at the new entrance across from Possum Hollow, and another entrance to the south of the property.
The property in the high-growth Indian Land panhandle is not far south of the North Carolina and South Carolina state line, between busy areas like Charlotte, Ballantyne, Fort Mill and Rock Hill.
