Rock Hill lost one restaurant to Pineville. Now there’s a spicy one to replace it

A new, spicy chicken restaurant is now open in Rock Hill.

Dave’s Hot Chicken opened Friday, Oct. 18 at 2476 Cherry Road. That’s the space vacated by Jasmine Grill after the property was sold last fall. Dave’s Hot Chicken has two Charlotte spots and told the Charlotte Observer early last year that the company planned a dozen locations in the region.

South Carolina also has two locations, in Columbia and Greenville.

The California-born chicken chain serves chicken tenders, sliders and sandwiches in varying heat levels. It also has mac and cheese and kale slaw. Milkshakes and slushers wash it all down.

Dave’s Hot Chicken adds to a long list of chicken places, new and old, in Rock Hill. Just on Cherry Road alone, there are long-time staples like Shrimp Boat and Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, plus new spots like Chicken King and Pollo Campero.

Beyond Cherry there’s Helen’s Hot Chicken, Chex Grill & Wings, The Roasting Company and several more. Nearby Fort Mill adds Bossy Beulah’s, Wing King Cafe, Slim Chickens, Super Chix and others.

Dave’s Hot Chicken has almost 240 existing or soon-to-open restaurants in 35 states plus Washington, D.C. Almost a third of those sites are in California.

Jasmine Grill moved out of the Cherry Road space after the property was sold in October and the new owner didn’t renew the restaurant’s lease. Jasmine Grill moved into a Pineville, North Carolina, spot it had planned to open as a second restaurant. A food truck still serves the Rock Hill area.

A Charlotte group bought the 2,200-square-foot fast food restaurant property last fall for $1.3 million.

The building was constructed in 2005. It’s on the dining out hot spot of Cherry Road, where restaurants span almost from the Catawba River on one end to Winthrop University and beyond on the other. The site also is just off Interstate 77 at the Cherry and Celanese roads exit, Rock Hill’s busiest spot.
