2 new coronavirus cases confirmed in York and Lancaster counties; SC total rises to 195

York and Lancaster counties each have two more confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, South Carolina health officials announced Sunday.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control is investigating 22 additional cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. South Carolina now has 195 total confirmed cases and three people have died as a result of the virus, according to DHEC.

York County, which had its second case confirmed Saturday, now has four cases of the virus and Lancaster County now has five cases, according to DHEC.

DHEC has not released specific details about the cases, like whether the patients have been hospitalized, where the patients live in each county, or how they may have contracted COVID-19.

County officials in both York and Lancaster counties believe DHEC should be providing more information on cases.

Lancaster Police Department Chief Scott Grant said his officers deserve to know if a situation they respond to could endanger not just them, but victims, suspects, witnesses, or the general public.

“My people face enough unknown hazards,” Grant said. “If there’s known information out there that can impact their safety, we should know about it.”
