Want to run for Rock Hill mayor, city council? Deadline is coming fast
Candidates seeking to run for political office in Rock Hill have until 5 p.m. Friday to officially register with the York County Board of Elections.
Rock Hill will hold elections Oct. 17 for mayor and three city council seats. Filing began on July 19 and runs through the end of the business day Aug. 18.
The filing fee is $336.76 to run for mayor or Council. Candidates must file at York County Elections Office, 13 S. Congress St., York.
One of the most high-profile elections this fall is the race for Rock Hill mayor. Longtime Mayor Doug Echols is stepping away after 28 years.
So far, three candidates have filed. The field includes Rock Hill Sports Commission chair John Gettys, York County Councilman William “Bump” Roddey and local landscape architect Duane Christopher.
Rock Hill voters also will choose three members for city council to serve Ward 4, Ward 5 and Ward 6. Those spots are respectively held by John Black, Ann Williamson and Jim Reno.
There’s currently a three-way race for Rock Hill’s open Ward 5 seat on the Rock Hill City Council. Incumbent Ann Williamson-Morrison faces challengers Nikita Jackson and Brandon Smith.
Ward 5 represents the southernmost portion of Rock Hill, including neighborhoods along Albright Road and Saluda Road. The ward also stretches into downtown Rock Hill, including parts of Main Street.
