The coaster sends riders through two launches, holds them upside down and turns them sideways on a winding path.
Copperhead Strike first launches riders from 0 to 42 mph in 2.5 seconds, The Herald previously reported. Riders are launched a second time during the ride from 35 to 50 mph in 2 seconds. The entire ride lasts 2 minutes, 24 seconds.
Copperhead Strike was ranked No. 6 on USA Today’s list as of Monday afternoon. Other nominations include Calico River Rapids at Knott’s Berry Farm in California, Cyborg Hyper Drive at Six Flags New England in Massachusetts and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Fla.
Carowinds has made multiple USA Today top 10 lists in recent years. SCarowinds, Carowinds’ Halloween event, was named one of the top 10 Best Theme Park Halloween Events earlier this year.
Carowinds has continued adding to the park’s offerings. This year Carowinds launched a new parade as part of its Winterfest holiday celebration and opened an on-site hotel.
The theme park is also launching a nighttime festival and adding a new water slide for the 2020 season.
