Injury crash blocks I-77 in York County; wrecks in Chester, Lancaster, officials say

A crash with injuries on Interstate 77 in York County south of Rock Hill has blocked the northbound lanes of the highway, officials said.

The road was blocked Monday morning as emergency crews and troopers with the S.C. Highway Patrol responded to the incident near mile marker 73, according to the highway patrol.

Details about the injuries have not been released.

Traffic on the southbound side of I-77 was slowed in Chester County after a separate wreck near mile marker 63, according to police and fire officials.

Troopers also were working a crash in Lancaster County east of the York County line at the intersection of U.S. 521 and S.C. 5., officials said.

Rain was expected to affect travel through Monday, according to the National Weather Service and area emergency management officials. Wind gusts are also expected to be as high as 25 to 20 mph, officials said.

“We always advise people to drive slower in these heavy rain and wind conditions,” said Darren Player, Lancaster County Emergency Management director.

Isolated flooding is possible as the area expects more than an inch of rain Monday, according to the weather service.

The weather service issued a hazardous weather bulletin for York and Chester counties.
