3 shot in Rock Hill home on New Year’s Day; no arrests yet, police say
Three people were shot shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day in Rock Hill, police said.
The three victims, two men and a woman, were found about 12:30 a.m. at a house on Booker Washington Street, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.
The shooting took place in the 200 block of the street close to S.C. 901 on the city’s southern edge, near Heckle Boulevard and Crawford Road. Police would not say whether they are seeking one suspect or more, but they had not made any arrests as of late New Year’s Day, Chavis said.
Police also have not released the names of the victims. Chavis said one of the men, 64, was shot in the chest and has life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition, officials said.
A second man, 53, was shot in the shoulder. The woman, 42, was shot in the abdomen, Chavis said. All three gunshot victims were taken to Piedmont Medical Center hospital in York County for treatment.
It remains unclear why someone opened fire at the house, Chavis said. Officers think the people involved knew each other and the violence was isolated to single residence, Chavis said.
“This is not believed to be a random act targeting strangers,” Chavis said.
No other injuries were found and no other acts of violence were reported nearby, according to police.
Patrol units, detectives, forensics, and other units responded to the scene and the hospital, Chavis said.
