One dead in York County house fire south of Rock Hill, officials say
One person has died after a house fire in York County, emergency officials said.
The fire happened in the 5500 block of South Fork Road, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office. The area is south of Rock Hill and York near the Town of McConnells.
John Percival, 64, was found dead in the fire, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said.
Firefighters from Bethesda, Oakdale, and McConnells fire departments responded to the structure fire after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Chuck Haynes, York County Emergency Management Director.
The house had a single occupant, Haynes said. There were no other injuries.
The sheriff’s office, York County Fire Marshal’s Office, and State Law Enforcement Division are investigating. It is standard procedure for law enforcement agencies, including SLED, to investigate any fatal fire, Haynes said.
The home sustained heavy damage, Haynes said. No cause of the fire has been determined.
