2 found dead in Lancaster Co. townhouse in Indian Land, officials say
Two people were found dead inside a townhome in Indian Land, Lancaster County officials said.
The bodies were discovered by Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies late Tuesday in the Arlington subdivision off S.C. 160, according to sheriff’s office Maj. Matt Shaw.
“We located two individuals deceased who had been there a while,” Shaw said.
The identity of the two people has not been released.. One is an elderly woman in her 80s, and the other is a man in his 30s, deputies said.
The persons found are consistent with the known residents of the home, said Doug Barfield, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Officials have not said how the two people died. Lancaster County Coroner officials and deputies are investigating, said Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile.
Faile said there was no evidence of a home invasion or evidence of any other involvement.
The officers had been asked to do a welfare check on the residents inside, then found the bodies, Faile said. Deputies used a ladder provided by the Pleasant Valley Fire Department to get into the home through an open window, according to Faile.
The incident location is east of York County and Fort Mill, and west of U.S. 521. The townhouse is in South Carolina, close to the Ballantyne area near the Mecklenburg County, North Carolina state line.
