Chester County man killed, woman hurt in house fire, officials say

A man died and a woman was injured Thursday night in a fire in Chester County, officials said.

The fire happened around 9:15 p.m. at a house at 1325 Old York Road, outside the Chester city limits, according to Max Dorsey, Chester County Sheriff.

The deceased man was found inside the house after firefighters put out the fire, Dorsey said.

The man who died was identified as Charles Davis, 56, said Tommy Williams, Chester County deputy coroner.

The woman who was injured was transported to a hospital in Rock Hill for treatment, sheriff and fire officials said. Her identity has not been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, coroner’s office, Chester County Fire Marshal and State Law Enforcement Division. SLED was called to assist because there was a fatality, Dorsey said.

Under state law, SLED is part of fatal fire investigations in South Carolina.

No other information about the incident has been released.
