Coronavirus forces Carowinds theme park to postpone new festival, party to 2021
Carowinds remains closed this season due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and park leaders aren’t sure when it will open.
With that uncertainty comes postponing the new nighttime festival and block party that had been scheduled to debut this year. It is now scheduled to debut in 2021, according to a news release.
“The safety of our guests and associates has always been and will always be our top priority,” according to the release. “We want to ensure you that when we do open, Carowinds will continue to be a safe and fun environment for all.”
Last year, Carowinds leaders announced the addition of Grand Carnivale, a nighttime parade and street festival. The park also planned this season to introduce Carolina Summer Nights, a nighttime block party.
Several other attractions planned for 2020 will continue once the park opens, according to Carowinds.
Construction is underway on the park’s new waterslide Boogie Board Racer. The attraction is described by Carowinds as the “longest mat racing slide in the Southeast.”
Carowinds plans to hold its Monster Jam Thunder Alley event this season once the park opens.
All 2020 season passes and add-ons are extended through the 2021 season, according to Carowinds.
Carowinds posted virtual experiences online while the park is closed.
The theme park is on the North Carolina-South Carolina border between Charlotte and Fort Mill, S.C.
